Shivanand is an HIV positive boy who lives in our partner home, Rays, in Jaipur. He’s 5 years old, and has faced more than most of us can imagine.
Shivanand’s mother passed away, which is when his HIV positive father remarried. His mother-in-law didn’t want him, so she starved him. He was sent to our home from Delhi, and when he first arrived Shivanand was skinny, sick and angry.
He’s now healthier, happier and gets on well with his new 57 brothers and sisters in the home. We share Shivanand’s story to make people aware of the stigma still faced by HIV positive people in India today, whether you’re 5 years or 50 years old…this need to change.
